This depends on

  • · How you apply – how many months before you apply
  • · How you plan?

Your approach /attitude 0-5
This is very important; keep your cool and never bug professors- never use the word – I need funding and stuff – Instead say, “ I wish to work for you”. Don’t email them asking for GRE college codes, climate & stuff be professional.
  • · Attitude is how good you Show your self and portray your self and
  • · How good you can convince a Professor that you wish to work for him
  • · Writing Skills
Now pick your schools
Just add your individual points and get the cumulative score
If you are planning for a PHD (not for AID but for passion) add 3 Points to your Cumulative Score.
Mechanical Engineering / Industrial Students add 3 points to it
Civil Engineering students add 5 points to it
Students with Non Engineering Back Group Such as Arts, Pathology, Drama, Anthropology, Speech therapy and some rare branches add 7 points to your cumulative score
Economy of the state was taken in to factor
If a state has mare schools then Less preference was given to those; because more competition
Some Factors/Assumptions taken in to Account
Getting financial support in a school is more important for a student than research at school or any thing
If two schools have similar rankings, the one with less number of International applicants each year is given Preference.
“Big Schools” Which offer many Courses are given good ranks as there is a chance for On campus jobs and Graduate Assistants (eg: University with Medical Campus will generate a lot of Jobs of Computer Science students Web Designing / Data Management Jobs)
Preference is given to places where a student can get Internships and Jobs
Places with less number of Indian students and Less number of Indians are given higher preference (reason: Less competition)
Other factors include Safety, Cost of Living, Climatic Condition, Geographic Location & better Living Conditions.
VISA issues based on a feedback from 500 students have been taken as a factor.
Tuition of the University was taken in to consideration and preference was given to one with low tuition
Schools run under State System and federal system were given preference to Private Universities
